At ENERCALC we are continually evaluating, testing, improving and enhancing our software. It is fairly simple to make changes to the software here in our offices, however it can be overwhelming to ship thousands of CD to our user base. Thanks to other companies who say a great market niche we now have the ability to deliver software updates over the Internet.
The Web Update system uses Internet protocol HTTP on port 80 to check if a newer version of the software is available and transfer those file from our server to your computer as needed. This check can be made every time you start the software or on an on-demand basis.
THE COMPUTER MUST HAVE INTERNET ACCESS FOR WEB UPDATE TO OPERATE.
Selecting the "Settings" main menu item and then the "Web Update Settings" sub-selection will display the web update screen as shown below:
Check for update Automatically at Startup ? Leave this box checked to allow the software to run the update check every time you start the software.
What actually happens : What actually happens during an update check is that the software runs the "EC6WebUpdate.exe" program file in the Enercalc program folder. This file reads the IDEPLOY.CLI file that contains information about the web server that handles the updates and what the current installed version is. This program connects to our Internet servers using the "HTTP" protocol on port 80. It used information contained in the IDEPLOY.CLI file and compares the current version number you have with the current release of the software as stored on our servers. If there is a newer version available a small update installation program names EC6_WebUpdate.exe is transferred from our server to your computer which executes to complete the file download and software updating/installation process.
EC6WebUpdate.exe and EC6_WebUpdate.exe are digitally signed applications that are secure to run and are virus free.
Note! The "WebUpdate" procedure may send information to ENERCALC, INC about your installation and use of the software are licensing from ENERCALC, INC. This may include any of the following: your ENERCALC assigned User Registration Number, Current Version Number of the installed software, Internet IP address of the computer that will receive the updated files, time usage for the various portions of the software, and potentially other information only specifically related to the use of software license. Absolutely no files, or configurations, settings, or other information not specifically regarding the usage of the ENERCALC license use will be sent.
